Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav confirmed that star opening batter Abhishek Sharma will feature in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 match against Pakistan.

The group stage contest is scheduled to be held at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, on Sunday, February 15.

1-ranked T20I batter had missed Team India's recent 93-run win over Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi due to a stomach infection.

He was briefly hospitalised, before recovering and travelling with the rest of the team to Sri Lanka.

In his absence, wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson had slotted back in at the top of the order.

However, Suryakumar Yadav stated that Abhishek Sharma will return to the playing XI after recovering from his illness.

He referred to a remark earlier made by Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha during the pre-match press conference as well.

He is a good player, and we want to play against the best team they have.

Really hope he's recovering well and can play," the Pakistan captain had said.

"If Salman wants us to play Abhishek tomorrow, we shall play him," Suryakumar Yadav said during the pre-match press conference in Colombo (via NDTV).

Abhishek Sharma featured against Pakistan during the 2025 Asia Cup, where he scored 110 runs in three outings at an average of 36.67 and a strike rate of 189.66.

"The pressure is always there" - Suryakumar Yadav on the India-Pakistan contest in T20 World Cup 2026 The Indian captain admitted that there will be nerves ahead of the high-profile encounter, but remarked that it was something natural due to the history of the rivalry, as well as the fact that the two teams face each other only sporadically.

No matter how much we say 'It's just any other game', but it's a human tendency to be under pressure because it is not any other game.

So the pressure is always there," Suryakumar Yadav said (via RevSportz) The winner of the contest will top Group A and qualify for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 with a match remaining..
