Is it too cliched to say that the next U.S. inflation report will be the most important since the last one? Maybe, but the consumer price index (CPI) data for August is shaping up to have a hugely significant bearing on Federal Reserve policy, potentially sealing ​the case for an interest rate rise next week and the resumption of a monetary tightening cycle.
